WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE AMA GRAND NATIONAL DIRT TRACK RECORD BOOK ONE NAME STANDS OUT, SCOTT PARKER. HE STARTED RIDING MOTORCYCLES AT AGE 6 AND RODE IN HIS FIRST RACE WHEN HE WAS 11. IN 1976 SCOTT WAS CROWNED AMA 250CC AMATEUR NATIONAL DIRT TRACK CHAMPION, FOLLOWED IN 1978 BY A JUNIOR NATIONAL DIRT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP, EARNED IN HIS FIRST FULL SEASON ON 750CC MACHINERY.
PARKER JOINED THE AMA GRAND NATIONAL DIRT TRACK TOUR IN 1979 AND BECAME THE SERIES YOUNGEST WINNER AT AGE 17 WITH A VICTORY AT THE DUQUOIN ILL. MILE. SCOTT WOULD WIN A SECOND TIME AT THE INDY MILE, AND END HIS FIRST SEASON 9TH IN THE SERIES FINAL POINT STANDINGS, EARNING HIM THE AMA DIRT TRACK ROOKIE OF THE YEAR TITLE.
FROM THERE PARKER WENT ON TO COMPILE AN IMPRESSIVE RESUME. HE HAS WON APPROXIMATELY 25% OF THE RACES HE’S FINISHED, AND NOW LEADS THE LIST FOR TOTAL CAREER WINS AT 94, MORE THAN DOUBLE THE TOTAL OF CLOSE FRIEND JAY SPRINGSTEEN WHO IS SECOND WITH 41. IN 1988, TEN YEARS AFTER JOINING THE AMA GRAND NATIONAL DIRT TRACK RANKS SCOTT WOULD SCORE HIS FIRST NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, IN FACT HE WOULD GO ON TO WIN FOUR IN A ROW, TYING THE 30 YEAR OLD RECORD SET BY CARROL RESWEBER. IN 1992 SCOTT WOULD LOSE THE BID FOR A RECORD SETTING FIFTH TITLE BY 2 POINTS TO CHRIS CARR.
A NEW RUN AT RESWEBERS RECORD WOULD START IN 1994, AND BY THE END OF THE 1998 SEASON THE RECORD FOR CONSECUTIVE GRAND NATIONAL TITLES WOULD BE HIS.
ONE OF THE MOST POPULAR RIDERS ON TOUR, PARKER ALWAYS HAS TIME FOR THE FANS, HE IS ROUTINELY ONE OF THE LAST PEOPLE TO LEAVE THE TRACK, WAITING UNTIL ALL OF THE AUTOGRAPHS ARE SIGNED AND PICTURES TAKEN.

THE 1999 SEASON WILL BE SCOTT’S 20TH YEAR ON THE GRAND NATIONAL DIRT TRACK TOUR, IT IS ALSO SLATED TO BE HIS LAST. PARKER WILL HANG UP HIS LEATHERS AT THE END OF THE YEAR, HOWEVER HE IS COMMITTED TO LEAVING THE SPORT ON TOP. WINNING FIVE CONSECUTIVE CHAMPIONSHIPS BRINGS THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE IT SIX, SOMETHING NO OTHER DIRT TRACKER HAS EXPERIENCED. WITH LEGENDARY TUNER BILL WERNER TURNING THE WRENCHES, AND HARLEY DAVIDSON PROVIDING THE BACKING
SCOTT PARKER IS SURE TO CONTINUE HIS WINNING WAYS.
